Back in August, Examiner's own Steven Ruygrok reported (seen here) the possibility that Sony's much anticipated open world racer "Drive Club," may be delayed. Although there was some confusion about what one would consider a "holiday launch title," it was the first indication that there may be some issues with getting "Drive Club" out the door on time.
Earlier today, The Same Coin reported (seen here) that a Sony insider has claimed delays for Sony's all new racing IP into 2014. Following this, sources with potential knowledge of the situation were contacted in order to shed some light on the topic. Although no concrete answer was given, a similar "I head something as well" response was noted.
Although little worth was given behind the rumor outside of this, it seems as though the source was correct as more and more outlets are getting reports that "Drive Club" has been pushed into 2014 and out of the launch period for the PlayStation 4. To add fuel to the fire Drive Clubs own Paul Rustchynsky couldn't even give a clear, direct response to the rumors:
"Unfortunately guys I don't have any new information on DRIVECLUB to share. I've been out of the office for a week looking after my newborn!"
This would now be the second launch title that has been delayed for Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 in under a week (the former being Ubisoft's "Watch_Dogs"). If true, it leaves Sony's competitors at an unforeseen advantage this holiday season, an advantage I'm sure they will take advantage of.
In hindsight though, Drive Club has always been under the microscope. Since the first playable demo's were made available to the public in June reports of uninspired gameplay, less than stellar graphics (most notably, the frame rate) and the lack of footage with multiple cars on screen left uninspired first impressions.
If true, we can only the delay is for the best, and the developers can get Drive Club up to the level the developers have set for themselves.
