Rumor: Current & next-gen only Assassin's Creed titles being developed for 2014

It's safe to say Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has exceeded expectations of gamer's everywhere. Coming off the very pretty but massively disjointed Assassin's Creeed: Revelations and the hugely hyped but ultimately a let down Assassin's Creed III, fans of the series didn't have any real reason to think much of Ubisoft's dabble in pirate culture.

Color everyone surprised, the open sea's adventure was an incredible game, one that everyone should experience for themselves. With that said, interest in the series is at an all time high and Ubisoft is not about to sit around and let that interest go unattended. In a recent interview with Examiner, Ubisoft Sofia producer Momchil Valentinov Gindyanov told us that multiple Assassin's Creed titles were "Definitely a possibility."

Noting that the PlayStation Vita's (and soon to be HD re-release for console) Assassin's Creed Liberation and other future portable Assassin's Creed titles were left out of this category, interest peaked as to what Ubisoft has planned for multiple Assassin's Creed releases within one year.

Contacting sources familiar with these projects, it has come to fruition that Ubisoft has two Assassin's Creed titles planned for 2014; one being a next-gen (PlayStation 4/Xbox One) exclusive while the other designated for the current crop of now last-generation consoles (PlayStation 3/Xbox 360).

The source also mentioned that the series is under a massive re-scope, but couldn't elaborate any further. As always, this information is not confirmed by Ubisoft and must be considered rumor for now, so take everything with a grain of salt.

In the mean time, let me know what you think about this potential separation of the series, per platform. Comment below, subscribe to me here, on YouTube at YouTube/Pitmonkey and follow me on Twitter @NicholasGigante.

Note: There seems to be some confusion regarding the Wii U: No console specifics were mentioned, just listed for easy reference from one generation to the next. This does not mean the Wii U was left out, the source simply didn't clarify platform specifics.
