According to Screen Crush on Sept. 2, Benedict Cumberbatch, who had starred as the villain in "Star Trek Into Darkness", has been rumored to be in the future "Star Wars VII" film. Although Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg have no desire to be in that film, Cumberbatch did express that he would do it if asked.
"I thought, ‘Yeah, I grew up with them,’ and I just looked recently at when they were released and now I’m like, ‘No, I didn't grow up with them, I was born with them.’ They were a huge part of my background, and my upbringing. I was much more connected to [Star Wars] as a kid, in the way that a lot of kids are because it’s immediate storytelling, very simple – a beautifully, outrageously simple narrative in a way – and a wonderful three-act melodrama, opera. And I loved them. I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo".
What is possibly known is that Cumberbatch was asked to be in "Star Wars VII", however, it is to be determined if he accepted the offer and Lucasfilm has declined to comment on it.
One could indeed think that Cumberbatch would have no problem playing a character of the dark side, after all, he did a miraculous evil performance as Khan. There was a long running rumor of Cumberbatch playing Khan in the film which obviously turned out to be true. So one could only speculate if the rumor-to-fact pattern will occur in "Star Trek VII" Also, filming for the movie begins in about four months and casting for the film is now on the horizon. Abrams also has an affinity with working with the same actors as well. That being said, the rumor mill is likely to pick up pace.
