Rue McClanahan of Golden Girls fame dies at age 76

Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan has passed away at the age of 76.

According to People Magazine, who spoke with her manager Barbara Lawerence, she passed away earlier this morning at 1 A.M. this morning from a massive stroke.

The Golden Girls, a comedy which starred Betty White, Estelle Getty, Bea Arthur and McClanahan as friends living together in their twilight years in a house in Miami, Florida, ran on NBC from 1985 to 1992. When the show was canceled, Getty, White and McClanahan did a spin-off show named Golden Palace which ran on CBS for only one season from 1992 to 1993.

With McClanahan's passing, the only surviving cast member left is Betty White, who is 88 years old. Bea Arthur passed away in 2009. Estelle Getty passed away in 2008.
