The Toronto Raptors have agreed to trade forward Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings. Yahoo Sports has reported that Toronto will send Gay along with Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray to the Kings in exchange for John Salmons, Patrick Patterson, Chuck Hayes, and Greivis Vasquez.
According to Yahoo Sports, Gay and the Raptors have been at odds. The franchise hopes to unload Gay’s bloated contract that includes a $19 million dollar player option for next season.
The Raptors (6-12) are tenth in the Eastern Conference and are currently on a five-game losing streak. The team hopes to lose out this season to attain a high lottery pick in the deep 2014 NBA Draft. The team will have over $20 million to spend on free agents in the offseason thanks to shedding Gay’s deal. Chuck Hayes is the only player coming over from the Kings that will affect Toronto’s salary cap next season.
The Kings are 5-13 in the west and hoping that the addition of Gay can propel then into the playoff race. Gay, an explosive wing player could be the perfect compliment to Sacramento’s big man, DeMarcus Cousins.
Rudy Gay averages 19.4 points per game while shooting 38% from the field.
