Rudo y Cursi was released in Mexico in December 2008, and hopefully it will be released May 8, 2009 in the states. The actors have moved on and have even shot one or more other films (each). Sometimes that happens, actors shoot a film, and it's not released for a while (some up to two years or more).
In the meantime here is background on Rudo y Cursi and some of its lead actors...
Rudo y Cursi (English: Rude and Corny) is a Mexican film starring Diego Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal and Guillermo Francella. It is directed by Carlos Cuarón (Alfonso Cuaron's brother) and produced by Cha Cha Cha Producciones (production company created by Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu).
The movie is a drama/comedy about two brothers from a rural lower class Mexican family with roots in a little "banana town" on the coast of Mexico, and fighting over who performs better in professional soccer. It is also a parody of contemporary Mexico's "narco-society" perceptions of life and values.
Like in the novel, the characters have only descriptions, no names or histories; director Fernando Meirelles said some actors were intimidated by the concept of playing such characters.
I never think about the past. I just think what my character wants." - Bernal
Rudo y Cursi was released in December 2008 in Mexico, and will have its U.S. premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival in April (or May ) 2009. This is Carlos Cuarón's first full-length movie -- before Rudo y Cursi, Carlos only directed short films.
Gael Garcia Bernal
Gael García Bernal is a Mexican actor and director. Bernal started acting at just a year old and spent most of his teen years starring in telenovelas.
Diego Luna
Diego Luna is a Mexican actor known for his childhood telenovela work, a starring role in the film Y tu mamá también, and supporting roles in American films. He is also known for his role in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.
