Ruben Studdard feels fantastic after losing 112 pounds, and celebrated his weight loss by running his first 5K race.

The once-sedentary Ruben credits his rigorous workouts on "The Biggest Loser" for giving him the stamina to finish the race.

"I most definitely feel like 'The Biggest Loser' helped with that because I'm in much better physical condition," Studdard told the Birmingham News.

The 6-foot-3 "American Idol" winner, who once tipped the scales at 462 pounds, now weighs a healthier 350 pounds and feels better than he has in years.

Sadly, Ruben was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes while competing on "The Biggest Loser," but said it gives him even more motivation to continue his weight-loss journey.

"Finding out that I was diabetic was a real shock," said Studdard, 35. "I have a lot to keep me motivated to stay healthy." Ruben manages his diabetes with diet, exercise, and stress-reduction techniques.

Ruben said weighing himself can sometimes be discouraging because the scale doesn't always reflect the tremendous effort he puts in, but he's proud of every pound he loses. "Sometimes the scale just doesn't show the hard work that you put in," he said. "But I celebrate every pound I lose."

Studdard's new album, Ruben Studdard: Unconditional Love, is out now.
