Rubio's Fish Tacos invites beach-goers to join them at the Oceanside pier on May 10 from 10am to 2pm for the third annual beach clean-up and Coastfest.

Last year's effort led to 350 pounds off trash collected with help from about 1,600 attendees who enjoyed bands and free food and drinks.

Rubio's president of marketing, Karen Silk, told me that companies engage in causes all the time but this particular event closely aligns with Rubio's mission.

"We're about the fish taco, we serve sustainable seafood, and many of our items are seafood in nature. We want people to know we're supporting clean oceans and many of our guests after last year's event called us up and said how much they enjoyed it."

An initial beach clean-up began with employees taking a few hours to pick up trash on the sand and then the company made it a community effort.

This year, touch tanks will be on hand from the Ocean Institute at Dana Point and a mobile learning center courtesy of the Wyland Foundation.

Other event partners include I Love a Clean San Diego and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon.
