The Lakeshore General Hospital took the iconic children’s toy, the rubber duck, out of the bathtub and dumped it in the Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal lock for a good cause. The 14th Duck Race took place yesterday in conjunction with the classic car show in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and earned the hospital a new fundraising record. The official total will be tallied later, but organizers estimate over ten thousand ducks were sold this year, more than any other year.
Rubber ducks were being sold for $10 each, and people got to take home a miniature version of the duck to keep, while their larger counterpart would float in the canal on June 19th with an ID number that matched their ticket. The principle item that organizers thanked for drawing such record numbers of buyers this year was the grand prize of a 2001 Ferrari 550 Maranello.
