RTD Call-n-Ride service in Parker saved after public meeting

The Denver Post reports Thursday October 20, 2011 that after holding 24 public meetings all over the Denver Metro area, The RTD has amended their proposed $12 million service cuts by about $1.3 million.

During the Tuesday RTD Meeting the board backed a new proposal to alter the planned bus route reductions to several areas. The one the Town of Parker residents were activly opposing was the planned end to the Parker call-n-Ride RTD service. The final vote to save the seven services is Tuesday and is expected to save the Rural Transportation District $10.7 next year.

I am proud of our citizens for voicing their concerns to RTD in a most passionate yet professional manner. I am also proud of Councilmembers Mike Waid, Amy Holland, Josh Martin, and Scott Jackson for being there to support our citizens. Finally, to Commissioner Jack Hilbert for his gran- slam facts and bringing it all home. We spoke, RTD heard us, and the rest is history. Onwards! - David Casiano, Mayor of Parker CO.

The Parker Call-n-Ride allows residents to make a reservation for the bus to pick them up and take them to anywhere in the designated service area you want to go. This has become a very important service for school aged children to be able to get to and from school and school activities with the massive budget cuts in the Douglas County School district in the past few years. You can see the RTD PDF Call-n-Ride brochure here.
