LONDON – Kate Middleton will make her arrival at Westminster Abbey this Friday, April 29, in a 1977, Rolls-Royce Phantom VI on her wedding day and will depart in a fairy tale horse-drawn carriage with Prince William.
It is the first time since 1963; a royal bride will not arrive by a State Landau horse-drawn coach. However the transition from commoner Kate to Princess Catherine departing in a royal carriage with Prince William is indeed romantic.
For those people lining the one-and-a-half-mile route between Buckingham Palace and the Abbey, the disappointment of the understated arrival will diminish once they see all of the grandeur that will follow the wedding service.
After they are pronounced man and wife, Princess Catherine and Prince William will ride in an open-topped 1902, State Landau horse-drawn carriage for the procession back to Buckingham Palace, unless inclement weather leads them to use the famed "Glass Coach.”
The procession from the Abbey to Buckingham Palace for the wedding reception will also include thousands of marching soldiers, military bands and mounted regiments. The State Car collection in the procession will carry, Best Man, Prince Harry, the Maid of Honour, “Pippa” who is Kate’s Sister, The Queen and many others in the Royal Family. The Royal rides will include two Bentleys, three Rolls-Royces and three Daimlers.
Royal Wedding Timetable:
10.30am. Prince William and Kate Middleton travel to the service. She will travel by car - starting either at Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace or Clarence House – along The Mall, Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and Parliament Square.
11am. Wedding service at Westminster Abbey, whose capacity is 2,200. The Dean of Westminster, the Very Rev Dr John Hall, will conduct the service but the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will marry the couple. The Bishop of London, the Rt Rev Richard Chartres, will then give an address.
12pm. The married couple will travel in a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace, crossing Parliament Square before going along Whitehall, Horse Guards Parade and The Mall.It's traditional for the couple to make a public appearance on the balcony at Buckingham Palace before joining the reception. The whole world will be hoping for a romantic kiss from the newlyweds.
12.30pm. The Queen will give a reception at Buckingham Palace for the newlyweds and a selection of several hundred guests from the congregation.
6pm. The Prince of Wales will give a private dinner at the palace for the couple, their close friends and family followed by dancing.
