Royal Caribbean International announced a change in its deployment for the summer 2015 cruise season that will bring Explorer of the Seas to Southampton. According to a March 31, 2014 press release received by Examiner, Explorer of the Seas will take over the European itineraries announced previously for Adventure of the Seas, and Adventure of the Seas will remain in San Juan on seven-night southern Caribbean cruises.
Making her European debut, Explorer of the Seas will sail three- to 16-night roundtrip cruises from Southampton from April to Sept. 2015. The ship will offer:
- Northern Europe itineraries of either three or eight nights
- Mediterranean itineraries ranging from 11 to 16 nights
- Madeira, Azores, and Canary Islands itineraries of 10 to 14 nights
Prior to her European debut, Explorer of the Seas will undergo an extensive renovation that will include the additions of a new FlowRider surf simulator, a 3D movie theatre, and new staterooms and restaurants. Details will be revealed at a later date.
Both Adventure of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas belong to the Voyager class of ships and are therefore of similar size and passenger capacity. Royal Caribbean did not disclose the reasons for the switch.
The complete schedule of sailings and repositioning cruises to and from the U.S. will be available soon on the Royal Caribbean website.
