Rumors have been swirling for the last several weeks on cruisecritic.com and other sites that Royal Caribbean will be moving the Enchantment of the Seas from Baltimore to a new home port. The rumors have not speculated as to whether another RCL ship will take its place.

The Enchantment of the Seas is the largest RCL ship that will fit under both the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Key bridge, so anything they replace it with will be smaller. The only other alternative would be for a new cruise port to be outside of the Key bridge.

Given the popularity of cruises leaving from Baltimore, it is difficult to believe that RCL would want to simply leave this market, but both Norwegian Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises have left in the last several years. Other than the Enchantment of the Seas, only the Carnival Pride calls Baltimore its home port.

The last notice published by the local business development management is that an announcement will be coming some time in May regarding RCL deployment from Baltimore. Stay tuned to this column.
