Royal baby: Kate and William's first born destined to rule regardless of gender (Video)

Royal baby! Kate Middleton remained hospitalized on Dec. 4, 2012 after a pregnancy loss scare caused Prince William to have her admitted to the hospital. The child will be heir to the throne of England regardless of his or her sex, marking a tremendous historical change in the Royal family's protocol regarding the assumption of power. As such, the Royals (as some of the world's most famous humanitarians) are helping make gender equality commonplace.

According to CNN International:

Catherine's pregnancy could turn out to be one of the most significant in the history of the British royal family, for the child will accede to the throne even if she is a girl.

The child will not be subject to the centuries old law of primogeniture, which puts male heirs ahead of women.

CNN further revealed how the Royal family have been able to make the change. "Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron has agreed a deal to change the rules on the royal line of succession, which means male heirs will no longer be given priority..." said the source.

What do you think, readers? Was it a smart political move for the Royals to change the rules about gender of the future heir?

In the past, if a male heir was born (even after a female heir), then he would ascend to the throne of England -- displacing his older sister or sisters. Now, it won't matter whether or not Kate has a boy or a girl. Their oldest child will be able to rule and wear the crown.

Queen Elizabeth will be replaced by her son Prince Charles. He will become king at the time of her death (presuming that she dies before him). After that time, Prince William will ascend to the throne (again, presuming that he is alive).

If he passes before he and Kate Middleton have a child then Prince Harry -- the royal bachelor -- would become king. However, like his uncle -- Prince Andrew had to endure -- if Kate and William have a baby all his hopes of becoming king someday will be dashed.

Doomed to a life of aristocracy the displaced royals often enjoy wealth and fame but none of the power. Racing to beat Kate's biological clock, the Prince and his bride have been trying to produce both an "heir and a spare" as UK tabloids say, ensuring that the monarchy stays with his bloodline rather than shifting Prince Harry's way.

Royal baby rumor mill reports are suggesting Kate Middleton is pregnant with twins, as the form of acute morning sickness she has is very common among moms-to-be who are expecting multiples. If twins are born healthy, one day the older of the two will reign.

Prince William and Kate Middleton rose to prominence as green celebrities when they had an eco-friendly wedding. She is also one of the only famous people known for promoting recycled fashion. Self-styled, she is often seen wearing the same thing more than once but in a variety of ways. Prince Charles has also been a staunch advocate for clean air in the UK.
