Here is breaking news for the DC metro and Arlington art patron community, Roy Utley is curating an art event that is in September with various activities at the MOCA DC in Georgetown.
Let me tell you about Roy Utley, artist philosopher and curator beginning with this YouTube introduction of the artist himself:
Roy characterizes himself as a “peace strategist” and to me that is a brilliant idea from the get go. So, imagine his curating an art show around a political theme. Roy is “The Peace Warrior.”
“From an early age he was always intensely interested in science and has been fortunate to have a series of mentors who always encouraged him to follow this passion. From the first barometer he built in third grade to more recent esoteric signal processing devices he always found testing ideas first hand in quantifiable ways very satisfying.
As he got older he began to have an interest in the sociological aspects of human behavior. Not from a statistical perspective but from a discrete quanta perspective of human behavior, a more hard science approach.
His initial primary objective was to find a set of universally basic common denominators that most areas of conflict had in common. After years of research he devised a theoretical model but needed to have test cases to test it. Noting that one of the most divisive areas and sources of conflict was religion he decided to search for a common denominator that would satisfy both the theist and non-theist alike.”
