Rowdies sign Bulgarian forward Georgi Hristov

The Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League (NASL) announced on Friday that they have signed Bulgarian forward Georgi Hristov to a two-year contract.

Twenty eight year old Hristov comes to the Rowdies after a career in Eastern Europe that included a number of clubs in the top leagues in three different countries.

Hristov played for four different teams in the Bulgarian A Group including Botev Plovdiv where he scored 22 goals in 34 appearances winning the Player of the Year award in 2007-08.

From there he moved to Levski Sofia and played for them both domestically and in the Europa League where he had three goals in ten appearances.

He has also played “first” division in Poland for Wisla Krakow and in Israel for Ashdod.

In all Hristov has scored 74 goals in 212 appearances over an eleven career at his various clubs.

Hristov joins Amani Walker, another forward who signed earlier in the off-season from Minnesota United FC. Hristov has signed for two years with Tampa Bay with the second year being at the club’s option.

The Rowdies are hoping to improve their squad with the aim of repeating their success of last season when they were crowned NASL Champions by beating the Minnesota Stars.
