Every now and again some combination comes along that makes even the most hard-core, seen-it-all gymnastics watcher scratch their heads and go, man, that really just defies gravity.
For me, the Arabian double front to immediate punch front full is that combination (today, at least.) And nobody that I've seen has done it better than U.S. junior Chandler Eggleston, who has an excellent Youtube channel that serves as a kind of diary of his skills.
Here's Eggleston's routine from last night's Winter Cup prelims. He's also got a full twisting double layout on floor, a hot Yurchenko 2.5 vault, and is working towards a triple. He'll be heading to Illinois in a year, too.
These variations on Arabians got me looking around to others, and thanks to Youtube user IgorGym1, I came across Ukrainian-trained-Brit Ruslan Panteleymonov, who did this wildness a few years ago. That's a double Arabian half out to a full twisting front 1.5 to his stomach.
Another especially entertaining video linked by Gymnastics Coaching showcases the most daring stuff ever done on men's floor, though it omits Panteleymonov's incredible pass. One thing that stood out there was Japan's Makoto Okiguchi's Lou Yon to 1.2 front roll out (here at 0:27). Talk about defying gravity!
