Schooling shows abound across the Midwest, as the equestrian season heats up. Beginning in early spring, these entry-level horse shows welcome riders of every aptitude.

Generally, a schooling show offers an excellent opportunity for a young horse or a beginning rider to try out the show arena for the first time. But schooling shows are also ideal for polishing more seasoned mounts and riders after time off or for testing their skills at a higher level.

Several Midwestern equestrian associations, such as the Illinois Dressage and Combined Training Association (IDCTA) offer annual season-end awards for top participants in their schooling show series. Schooling show points may or may not count for recognized show series year-end awards, depending upon organizational rulings and accreditation requirements.
