The Durham Performance Arts Center presents this 2011 Tony Award winning Broadway musical production on March 19 through 24.Anything Goes features toe-tapping and light hearted music and lyrics by Cole Porter and is based on the original book by P.G. The show is based on what the press release describe, a setting in 1934 “the musical comedy (is) about lovers, liars and clowns on a transatlantic cruise. When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention head out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love… proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail.”

Some of Cole Porter’s nostalgic hits in Anything Goes include “You’re the Top,” “Friendship,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “It’s De-Lovely,” “Blow, Gabriel, Blow” and, “Anything Goes.” Don’t be surprised if the tunes become embedded in the mind and catch you humming, singing, and slapping your feet on the water in the shower to sound like tap shoes. Anything is possible after an experience of Broadway musical magic.

From a small 150-seat theater in 1965 in a supermarket basement in New York City, the Roundabout Theatre has become an influential nonprofit with five stages on and off Broadway, touring nationally, and who continues to serve and entertain vast audiences, students, educators, artists, and actors nationally and worldwide. Enjoy the heritage of theatrical productions and savor the artistic contributions of the Roundabout Theater at the Anything Goes performances.
