The Round Rock Express (9-7) clubbed five home runs on Saturday night and cruised to a 12-2 victory over the Iowa Cubs (8-8) at Principal Park. Jared Hoying and former Iowa Cub, Brent Lillibridge had two home runs each for the Express.

The Express took a 2-0 lead in the third when Lillibridge followed a walk to Bryan Petersen with a two-run home run to left off Iowa starter Chris Rusin.

Iowa would tie the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout by Chris Valaika followed by an RBI single from Josh Vitters.

Rusin would give up solo homers to Hoying in the fifth and Lillibridge in the sixth, clearing the center field wall in almost the exact spot. Rusin (0-3) gave up four runs on five hits and one walk, while striking out five Express batters over six innings.

Christian Villanueva appeared the only I-Cubs batter to solve Express starter Ryan Feierabend (3-0). Villanueva went 2-for-3 with two doubles on the night.

The Express broke the game open in the eighth when they scored three unearned runs after Vitters dropped an easy fly ball off the bat of former I-Cub Brad Snyder, extending the lead to 7-2.

Round Rock scored five runs in the ninth. Marcos Mateo gave up Hoying’s second home run of the night to lead off the ninth, followed by three consecutive doubles before giving way to Marcus Hatley. Hatley gave up the final home run of the evening to Snyder.

Game two of the four-game series is Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.
