Roughnecks win 2014 home opener

According to the National Lacrosse League website, the Calgary Roughnecks won their 2014 National Lacrosse League season home opener on Friday by defeating the Colorado Mammoth 13-11 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

With the win, the Roughnecks improve to 1-1 after losing their season opener 16-11 to the Toronto Rock last weekend. They are currently one half game back of the 1-0 Edmonton Rush for first place in the West Division.

The Roughnecks got solid offensive performances from forward Jeff Shattler of Edmonton, Alberta and forward Dane Dobbie of Elora, Ontario. Dobbie had four goals and two assists for six points an Shattler had four goals and one assist for five points. The Roughnecks also had 13 loose balls collected by transition veteran Geoff Snider of Calgary.

The Roughnecks next play in Edmonton against the Rush on Friday, January 17. Their next home game is Saturday, January 18 against the Vancouver Stealth.
