According to the Calgary Roughnecks website, the Calgary Roughnecks announced the donation of $60,000 to the Calgary District Lacrosse Association on Thursday. The major reason for the donation is to help grow the sport of lacrosse within Calgary.

The current enrollment for the Calgary District Lacrosse Association is approximately 3,000 players. Boys and girls play within the association from the ages of four to 16, with 190 teams at the present time throughout the city.

There is no question that the sport of lacrosse is booming and the $60,000 the Roughnecks are providing should help generate interest in lacrosse even more. The executive of the Calgary District Lacrosse Association are hoping the funds will allow them to keep registration costs stable, help in the costs of team uniforms and other necessary equipment, and assist in the overall cost of floor time in community arenas.

The Roughnecks meanwhile are now preparing for a National Lacrosse League game this evening against the Edmonton Rush (14-1) at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Rush were upset 10-8 last night to the Colorado Mammoth to end their quest of being the first team in the history of the National Lacrosse League to go undefeated throughout an entire season.

Meanwhile, tonight's tilt will be the Roughnecks' final National Lacrosse League home game of the season. The Roughnecks are currently 10-5 with three more regular season games on the schedule. After this evening, they will play in Edmonton on Saturday, April 19 and then in Langley, B.C. against the Vancouver Stealth on Saturday, April 26.

The Roughnecks will be having at least one playoff game at home because they have clinched second place in the Western Division. Their opponent will either be the Colorado Mammoth or Vancouver Stealth. The Mammoth are at 6-10 following Friday night's upset, while the Stealth are 4-10.
