According to the National Lacrosse League website on Saturday, the Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Colorado Mammoth 16-15 in overtime at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary in the National Lacrosse League's West Division semifinal.
Roughnecks veteran Shawn Evans of Peterborough, Ontario scored the overtime winner at 1:23 of the extra period. Scott Ranger and Dane Dobbie picked up the assists. Evans led Calgary with four goals and five assists.
Dobbie had four goals and four assists for eight points, while Curtis Dickson and Daryl Veltman had six points each. Dickson had three goals and three assists, while Veltman had a goal and tied with Evans with a team high five assists.
Calgary's best offensive quarter was the second quarter when they scored seven times. However they also gave up seven goals in the second quarter as well. The Roughnecks outshot the Mammoth 60-50, with Dobbie having a game high 17 shots. With the Mammoth leading 15-14, Dickson tied the score at the 8:58 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Roughnecks will now play the Edmonton Rush in the West Final. The West Final is a two game series with game one in Calgary on Saturday, March 10 and game two in Edmonton on Friday, March 16. If Calgary and Edmonton split the two games, the teams will play a ten minute extra period following the game at Rexall Place in Edmonton to determine the West Division representative in the 2014 Champion's Cup.
In the East Division semifinal on Saturday, Ryan Benesch registered seven goals and three assists for ten points as the Buffalo Bandits defeated the Toronto Rock 15-13. The Bandits will now play the Rochester Knighthawks in the East Division final. The Knighthawks have won the Champions Cup the last two years--in 2012 over the Edmonton Rush and in 2013 over the Washington Stealth.
