Manchester United won with relative ease with a rotated squad 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

New star playmaker Juan Mata opened the visitor’s account with a tremendous free kick from outside the box. The Spanish midfielder curled it into the top right corner using his left foot.

It was Mata again for the second. Closing in on goal, the £37.5m man hesitated for a moment allowing the goalkeeper and a defender to slide right by. He then calmly passed the ball into the net to give United a commanding lead at St. James Park.

It was Mata’s creative midfield partner, Shinji Kagawa, that provided the third. In through the left flank, the Japan international measured a delightful ball for Javier Hernandez in the box who finished neatly.

Adnan Januzaj completed the scoring with a tidy finish at the near post set up by an audacious back heel from, guess who, none other than Mata.

Hernandez was one of the players that really took advantage of an opportunity with Danny Welbeck rested and Wayne Rooney out with injury. The Mexican led the line to good effect.

Phil Jones and Chris Smalling made up the partnership at the back, while Antonio Valencia was chosen to man the right back spot.

In goal, it was not David De Gea, but Anders Lindegaard who put in a good shift.

Up next for Manchester United is the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich in Germany on Wednesday.
