Musicians and fans come together to support a noble cause. Ace’s (on Chestnut Street near Point Stadium) in Johnstown hosts Rotary Rockfest on Saturday, February 4, 2012, with proceeds supporting the Richland Rotary Club’s local projects.
Revelers will experience an eclectic, madcap mix from Johnstown’s own Shades of June; Maiden America’s hard-driving 80’s rock; and dance floor favorites, Yum out of Pittsburgh. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a night of music, food, and drink to support one of the area’s most selfless organizations, the Rotary Club of Richland Township.
Rotary International exemplifies the efforts of individuals of all cultural backgrounds working together in dedication of “service above self.” There are 1.2 million Rotarians who comprise more than 34,000 Rotary Clubs in 200 countries all over the world. They work selflessly to promote community projects and humanitarian endeavors -- education and job opportunities, the fight against hunger, bringing clean water and sanitation to struggling districts, and combating illness.
Rotary International has made the global eradication of polio a pet project. After 25 years of hard work at polio awareness and immunization, Rotary is on the brink of eliminating this crippling disease worldwide.
Branches such as the Rotary Club of Richland Township bring similar missions to a local level. Through volunteerism and group effort, events like Rotary Rockfest support community improvement projects in local neighborhoods.
