As the regular season events for the 2013 Stockton Bass circuit on the California Delta came to a close this past weekend, the father and son team of John and Lorenzo Rossetti claimed the Anglers of the Year title. The Rossetti's cemented their AOY honors with a 2nd place finish for 19.22 in the Sept. 22 event.
"Of the eight tournaments this season, I think we've won two, had two seconds, a third, two fourths and a fifth," said Lorenzo. "I think we won AOY by about 30 points. This last weekend, we had some weather changes. The rain on Saturday put us in post cold front conditions. That left us fishing Sunday under overcast skies in about 52-degrees. There was a cold brisk wind. It was a lot different than it had been and the fish were not feeding on the top."
To adjust, Lorenzo reported the team caught their bass with Senkos and jigs as opposed to his more favored topwater lures. "We needed a more subtle action due to the sluggishness of the fish," he explained. "We were targeting deeper areas with a slow presentation, hitting tule berms with the boat in 12- to 15-feet and throwing at the bank toward that first ledge or tapered area. There was just nothing in that zero to three or four foot range."
This is their first AOY title for the Stockton Bass Club, however the Rossetti's have racked up numerous Delta victories including a WON BASS AOY honor as well as three in U.S. Angler's Choice. Lorenzo is sponsored by Phenix Rods, Revenge Baits, Strike King, Vicious Fishing, Prudential CA Realty and Outdoor Sportsman.
