It was confirmed Tuesday through media reports that comedienne and former talk show host, Rosie O’ Donnell will return as co-host and will join Whoopi Goldberg on ABC’s “The View.”
O’Donnell, 52 started as a moderator on The View in the 2006-2007 season, and left the show in late May of 2007. O’Donnell famously had many disagreements with conservative co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and not to mention the publicized feud O’Donnell had with real estate mogul, Donald Trump.
O’Donnell, who also helped spark ratings for the show, went as far as calling Trump a “pimp” in her personal blog, made degrading faces and gestures to describe Trump and also mentioned that Trump had “no right to be the moral compass for 20-year olds in America.” Trump fired back by also calling O’Donnell “fat,” and other unflattering names.
The View who recently dismissed co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, the show is now left with one host, Whoopi Goldberg, the current moderator; though Whoopi will now have O’Donnell as new company. The show is continuing to aggressively seek a Latina and a conservative to the gab-fest.
Speaking of conservative, former Alaska governor, Sarah Palin has made noise to hopefully join the show.
“I hear everyone recently got canned from The View, maybe a show like that needs a punch of reality and a voice of reason from America’s heartland to knock some humble sense into their scripts. You know, someone willing to go rogue,” Sarah Palin told the Hollywood Reporter.
There are reports floating that Sarah Palin’s name does come up during heavy discussions regarding the show’s new direction. Not sure though how Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg, who lean more to the left when it comes to political views would be able to tolerate Palin’s conservative views.
The show is currently looking for a conservative voice, there could be a chance Palin could become a co-host, but reportedly other conservatives being scoped are: Abby Huntsman and Margaret Hoover.
As for the shows direction, Whoopi Goldberg did not hide anything when she mentioned on Monday, “There’s a giant neon-pink gorilla in the room,” and continued “We’re going to deal with it,” referring to the emptiness and question marks surrounding the popular talk show.
The View should return for its 18th season (2014-2015) in September. By August we should learn who will join Rosie and Whoopi.
