Rosie O'Donnell has announced her return to the daytime talk show "The View" and not everybody is excited about it. Season 18 will include both Rosie and moderator Whoopi Goldberg but other hosts have yet to be announced. This comes on the heels of reports that Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy will not be returning. According to a Thursday report by ABC News, Rosie O'Donnell's return to daytime television was announced via an official Twitter account for "The View."
Rosie O'Donnell was a host on "The View" back in 2006 and 2007. There was much controversy surrounding her time on the show as she famously clashed with many conservative guests as well as fellow host Elisabeth Hasslebeck.
Hasslebeck is furious over the casting and has had some really harsh words for her former co-host. She said in an interview that O'Donnell's involvement with Barbara Walters going away party wasn't a matter of O'Donnell saying goodbye to one of television's most successful interviewers. Instead she alleges that it was Rosie's way to get back on the show. Hasslebeck insists that having Rosie O'Donnell produce the goodbye show for Walters was just a way to get her in the door. Hasslebeck was quoted as saying, “I do believe this has been in the works for a long, long time.”
In any case, Rosie O'Donnell is set to join up with Whoopi Goldberg for season 18. There are at least two other seats to fill since Shepherd and McCarthy were not renewed. It is unclear if Barbara Walters spot will be filled at all.
There have been some rumblings about possibly having a man as one of "The View" hosts. Rumor has it that Ross Mathews was being considered for a more permanent spot. Ross already has guest hosted a number of times and is well-received by fans of the show.
