Roseanne Barr, Elvira, and the Ninja Turtles

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back on the small screen (6:00CST on Nickelodeon) and with an all-star lineup of guest voice actors. The hit show among kids and adults has taken off since its premier last fall. Christmas season saw the associated toy line sold out across the country and Playmates Toys recently announced more products to hit shelves soon.

One of the keys to this new iteration is the excellent voice acting work being done. Nickelodeon recently announced the addition of the infamous Roseanne Barr to their lineup. Rosanne will bring her signature tone to the show in the role of Kraang Prime. She joins fellow actress Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira Mistress of the Dark, who voices one of the other female Kraangs.

Celebrity is not lacking on the Turtle’s side of the equation. Sean Astin from the Lord of the Rings plays Raphael. Jason Biggs of American Pie Fame lends his talents to Turtle’s leader Leonardo. Rob Paulsen who voiced Raphael in the 80s series now portrays nerdy Donatello. Veteran voice actor Greg Cipes rounds out the foursome as Michelangelo.

Nickelodeon smartly cast Kevin Michael Richardson as the series dreaded villain the Shredder. Richardson’s vast resume includes Roadblock on G.I. Joe: Renegades , Bulkhead on Transformers: Prime, and Jabba the Hutt on Star Wars: the Clone Wars. Kevin can also be heard weekly as the adorable Cleveland Jr. in the Cleveland Show on Fox. A great interview with Richardson can be found in the archives of the What’s on Joe Mind Podcast.

Everyone should continue watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon for more brilliant casting.
