The Rose City Classic Dog Show has been going on since Wednesday. I was able to spend some time there today watching not only a handful of breed groups but agility as well. These were some of the fastest agility dogs in America! Most of the dogs running agility were Border Collies and it was a blast to watch how fast they made it through the course. If you have the opportunity, it's worth going to the dog show just to watch agility. Today they were qualifying for the US Team competing in the World Agility Show.
The hosts are two local AKC clubs: The Dog Fanciers Association of Oregon and Tualatin Kennel Club. This year the Tualatin Kennel Club is donating $20,000 to Bonnie Hayes Small Animal Shelter in Washington County.
Have you seen "Best in Show" - who doesn't laugh out loud at the scene with Parkey Posey and the *busy bee* toy. While I loved this docu-drama, these shows do offer some of the finest dogs and best examples of purebreds. I absolutely loved seeing all the breeds with their handlers. More than 170 AKC recognized breeds and mixes are competing. The hounds (clearly!) are my favorite and I happened to stumble upon about ten Basset Hounds while I walked through the halls. They looked excited after coming out of the ring and these champions were clearly ready to compete for best in breed. So if you have time tomorrow, drive over to the Expo Center and if you're lucky you'll catch the Best in Show competition.
