Rosalina & Luma announced for the new Super Smash Bros.

Today during the latest Nintendo Direct, Global President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, announced the inclusion of a new character to the latest Super Smash Bros. coming out on the Wii U and 3DS in 2014.

Rosalina and her Luma companion were announced during the premiere of what appeared to be a new Mario Kart 8 video. In the video Kirby races alongside the Mario gang on a new Rainbow Road course, but is then quickly knocked out of the sky by Luma. Rosalina then lands next to Luma as the words Rosalina & Luma Launch Into Battle are displayed across the screen. Shortly after that some gameplay footage is shown of the two in battle against the likes of Animal Crossing's Villager and Pit of Kid Icarus fame.

Rosalina was first introduced in the Super Mario Galaxy games on the Wii. Judging by how she controls in the footage, it looks as though she will be an interesting character to contend with. She has the ability to throw Luma out towards foes and then have him act as a second character similar to how the Ice Climbers have played since Super Smash Bros. Melee. She also seems to use magic similar to how Princess Zelda has in the past games.

If you want to check out the video of her announcement and her gameplay footage first-hand be sure to play the video included on the top of this page.

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS will be released sometime in 2014 and has yet to receive an official release date. For all of the new Super Smash Bros. updates be sure to check back here on my examiner page.
