It's been a busy year for Rosalina, who recently appeared as a playable character in Super Mario 3D World and has been confirmed to return in Mario Kart 8. Even so, Nintendo surprised fans during their Nintendo Direct this morning when they revealed Rosalina as a playable fighter in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS entries in the Super Smash Bros. franchise.
Both Rosalina and her assisting Luma are credited as fighters, though we aren't sure as to how players will control both characters. It appears almost as if Rosalina can throw Luma into battle, which may be similar to Olimar and his Pikmin. Luma also appears to attack according to Rosalina's commands, though it may be controlled by the computer, much like Nana is when players select the Ice Climbers. As for Rosalina, she attacks primarily with non-physical magic abilities, much like Zelda and Mewtwo have in the past.
No release date was given for Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS and Wii U, though both versions are expected to launch sometime in 2014.
