Rosé not roses for Valentine's Day

If you're thinking about that special romantic holiday coming up, nothing is more fitting and fun than a glass of rosé on Valentine’s Day. Francis Ford Coppola’s Sofia Rosé is the perfect addition to your Valentine’s plans. Whether enjoying an intimate dinner with your sweetheart or joining a big party of revelers (it's probably against the law but you could conceivably extend your Fat Tuesday celebration), this festive pink drink is sure to liven up the evening.

The 2011 Sofia Rosé brings an elegant touch to any meal with its uniquely shaped bottle and versatile spicy characteristics that pair well with a wide range of foods. Aromas of pomegranate, lavender and candied orange peel are accompanied by flavors of strawberry, cherry, anise and tea leaf. Bright and sunny, but not without character, it's like a flavor amalgam of Valentine’s Day, all in one sip.

By the way, what's in the bottle is not just vanity oriented, celebrity wine making. Mr. Coppola is serious about the label that bears his name and this particular one is named after his daughter. In fact, this rosé came in second in a blind tasting of over a dozen different bottlings with my tasting group (Charles & Charles Rosé was first but it's long been sold out).

2011 Sofia Rosé ($15.99) is available at Berbiglia, Lukas Liquor, Riverside Red-X and Royal Liquors.
