Rory McIlroy, a famed-professional golfer, has called off his wedding plans to marry his tennis star girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki. The shocking announcement came from McIlroy after wedding invitations had already been sent to guests, according to Yahoo! News on Wednesday. McIlroy suggested that getting to the step where invitations were sent out for the wedding actually got him to realize that he is not quite ready for settling down into a marriage.

In a statement that was sent out by his management firm, McIlroy admits that the problem is his. He says that the wedding invitations sent over the weekend made him realize that he wasn’t ready for all that a marriage entails. He also said that there is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people – meaning him and Caroline. In reference to his former fiancé, he wished her all the happiness she deserves and thanked her for the great times they have had together. The statement concluded with: “I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”

The high-profile sports couple was engaged on New Year’s Eve. They weren’t shy about going public with their engagement and showing the masses how happy they were to be together. The many photos of them following the engagement five months ago showed a very happy couple having great times together.

As for their futures, McIlroy continues with the European Tour this week, according to Sports Illustrated. Wozniacki is scheduled for the French Open by the weekend. While the public may be curious to know just how things did or didn’t go down for the couple, the two are keeping their games on and not planning to talk about it anymore.
