Room Report: Renaissance Hotel Denver, Colorado

Arrival Experience: This business-friendly hotel is shaped like a pyramid, in similar fashion to other Renaissance properties around the country including the Renaissance Atlanta Airport. Once inside, the airy atrium and trickling fountains create a warm first impression. Glass elevators slide up one column to the open-air hallways that circle the building above, all of which look back down onto the multi-level lobby and restaurant. My visit comprised of a simple, one-night stay, and the free shuttle from the airport made the journey from plane to bed quite easy. The hotel is near the old Stapleton Airport area, which means the drive from Denver International Airport is just under 30 minutes, but the shuttle comes so frequently, there is hardly ever a wait. Front desk staffers were cheery even during my late evening arrival.

Dining: All meals are served in Vivace! Restaurant, which offers a variety of international dishes for lunch and dinner plus a substantial breakfast buffet. The open-air atrium gives the dining room a sense of spaciousness, and there are surprisingly few echoes from the hallways above. Tipplers can enjoy cocktails in the Elevate Lounge nearby where they can watch the comings and goings of guests in the lobby.

Accommodations: Guest rooms here are modern and fresh featuring Renaissance's standard pillowtop mattress and thick duvet with a stack of overstuffed pillows. Lengthy work desks culminate in a large flat-screen cable TV, and rolling chairs pull up to workspace with numerous power outlets, speaker phone and bright lamp. Closets are spacious, and there is additional space in drawers for heavy packers to unload their gear. Many rooms feature balconies with views of the surrounding area, which is a nice perk in seasonal weather. Bathrooms are large and well lighted with a vanity counter stocked with Aveda Spa toiletries. The shower-tub combinations feature curved shower rods to amplify the space, and towels are thick cotton. Guests on the executive level have access to a 10th floor lounge where a free hot breakfast, all-day Starbucks coffee and soft drinks, and evening canapés are served.

Conclusion: A modern fitness center and swimming pool are ideal recreational distractions, but a nearby shopping mall sometimes earns greater attention. Meeting facilities are a strong suit of the hotel with strong wireless high speed Internet signals available throughout the property. Conference rooms can be set up boardroom, theater, or reception style to cater to groups of all sizes. The perks here are plentiful: free airport transfers, spa-branded toiletries, oversized guest rooms with business amenities, and a pleasant staff. This hotel offers a substantial alternative for those that do not want to trek all the way into downtown and pay higher rates for a city center location.
