"Roof Cats" abandoned in Chicago suburb

Westmont, IL- Recently, residents were alarmed to see nearly twenty orange cats entering and leaving a foreclosed home in one neighborhood.  These cats were entering and exiting the abandoned house through roof windows that were left open and appeared to be "hanging out" on the roof, causing neighbors and rescuers to affectionately nickname them "The Roof Cats."  Kind hearts and concerned neighbors got in touch with a local Chicago non-profit, Feral Fixers who quickly came to the rescue.

Feral Fixers specializes in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) of feral cats living in both urban and rural areas in an effort to effectively reduce the number of cats euthanized and overall feral cat population. Kittens and tame cats are found new loving homes through volunteer efforts, and adoptions through no-kill shelters.

The final count?  Seventeen "Roof Cats" were successfully trapped.  Some have been relocated and placed in homes, but there are still a few who are in need.  According to Feral Fixers volunteer, Lauren Weber, "Because of their experience, they are shy and need quiet homes with no young children or dogs. They would do well with other cats especially ones that are already friendly."

The cats that are still left looking for homes are Wabash (female - 1.5 years); Wallace (female - 10 months); Waif (female - 10 months); Walsh (female - 8 months); Madison (female - 8 months and very tiny); Kelly (female - 2 years); Wade (male - 1 year); and Waukesha (male - 1 year). All but Madison and Walsh are short haired; Madison and Walsh are long haired. All are orange tabbies.

Lauren adds, "These cats will take some patience while they adjust to their new surroundings, but have proven themselves to be very sweet and affectionate cats while in cages and in the foster homes. Your patience will be rewarded with unconditional love and the knowledge that you made a difference in an innocent life. So how can you help? These babies need homes-if you yourself cannot adopt please share their story on your page. The more people that know about the "Roof cats" the better the chances are of them finding their forever homes."
