Ronnie Wood sparks rumors about Rolling Stones tour in 2012; fans are skeptical

It’s not exactly a secret that Rolling Stones guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood want the Stones to tour again. They’ve been saying it in interviews ever since the band’s most recent tour ended in 2007.

After rumors, hints and speculation that the Stones would tour in 2011 did not become a reality, Wood is now sparking rumors once again that the Stones will tour within a year.

Wood told Radio Times about the Stones being in discussions for a 2012 tour to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary: "They're still in the talking mode. Basically, get the boys feeling comfortable with each other, 'cause we're all ready to go individually. It's just a matter of tying up loose ends and coming together as a unit."

In December 2011, Wood, Richards and drummer Charlie Watts got together for a jam session in London.

Wood commented on how the jam session affected the band: "We're all happy. We were happy before Christmas. It's getting better each time."

As for Wood's comments that the Rolling Stones are "on the verge" of touring in 2011, reactions from fans on the Internet have been mixed, ranging from hopeful to skeptical. Most of the fans fall into the latter category. The skepticism comes from the fact that Wood and Richards have done headline-making interviews implying that the Stones would tour in 2011, but the tour never happened.

And although Wood said that the Stones and the Faces have been invited to perform at the 2012 Olympics in London, many fans doubt that the Stones will perform at the Olympics, simply because many people believe that whatever show the Stones do next, it will be under the total control of the Stones, not an Olympics committee.

Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger has said in his most of his recent interviews that he’s not really interested in doing a Stones tour in 2012 because his focus has been on other projects. Rolling Stones drummer Watts seems to have a fairly neutral stance and seems content to just go with the flow.

At this point, it is highly unlikely that the Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary celebration will be a full-scale world tour that lasts for more than a year.

If the Stones perform live in 2012, it will most likely be either one special show or a limited tour in select cities.

And that’s only if the Stones do any shows, since there’s always the possibility that they won't do any concerts at all.

Time will tell if this prediction turns out to be true.

In other news about Wood, he was at the Topman Design 2012 Autumn/Winter collection during London Fashion Week on February 22, 2012. Later that evening, Wood and his eldest son, Jesse, attended a private dinner in London hosted by GQ magazine.
