A Ronkonkoma man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly committing a string of residential burglaries in Medford and Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County police said March 7.

Vincent Heilig, 30, of 2363 Ocean Ave., is awaiting arraignment Friday morning at First District Court in Central Islip after being charged with 10 counts of second-degree burglary and one count of second-degree attempted burglary.

Authorities allege Heilig stole cash and jewelry after breaking into the houses when no one was home. Detectives said he committed the first burglary in April 2013, and then stopped, before allegedly committing the rest of the incidents in December 2013 and this past January.

Police said Heilig was stopped Wednesday by Fifth Precinct Gang Unit officers and arrested for allegedly committing six residential burglaries. After an investigation, detectives learned he was also allegedly responsible for four more burglaries.

The investigation, officials said, is still continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
