One of Rick Santorum's recent statements in South Carolina in reference to Ron Paul's pro-life voting record was that it was, "One of the worst in the United States Congress". This is categorically false and absolutely preposterous. Considering the truth is the complete and total opposite, Santorum's recent statements published in a story by Politico could be more accurately characterized as some of the biggest lies and distortions ever told on the campaign trail.
The fact is if more social conservatives finally knew the real truth about Ron Paul's record and career, they would realize that he has consistently been the one true Champion of Life. He actually was the first member of Congress to introduce the Human Life Amendment back in his very first term in Congress which was just 2 years after the Roe v Wade decision. Since that first bill, he has authored, sponsored, co-sponsored and repeatedly introduced many other Pro-Life bills throughout his entire career in Congress.
The woman "Jane Roe" that was used in the pro-abortion agenda of the Roe v Wade case actually did not ever get an abortion after the decision. She has long since become a Born-again Christian, one of the greatest pro-life activists and grieves the loss of life caused by her case. Although mainstream media were for the most part negligent in performing their duty to inform the public, this woman actually pleaded before our Supreme Court to overturn her own case many years ago. Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) on Jan. 22, 2008 which was the 35th anniversary of Roe v Wade formally endorsed Ron Paul for President during his last run for the office. The full quote is listed below and obtained from a source that was able to retrieve it in its entirety from a German media source as our own mainstream media had shown mainly just bits and pieces which could be spun into a negative light. The quote below is reported to be Norma's full quote and actual endorsement back on the 35th anniversary in 2008.
I support Ron Paul for President because we share the same goal, that of overturning Roe v Wade. Ron Paul doesn't just talk about being pro-life, he acts on it. His voting record truly is impeccable and he undoubtedly understands our constitutional republic and the inalienable right to life for all. Ron Paul is the prime author of H.R. 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v. Wade. As the signor of the affidavit that legalized abortion 35 years ago I appreciate Ron Paul's action to restore protection for the unborn. Ron Paul has also authored H.R. 1094 in Congress, which seeks to define life as beginning at conception. He has never wavered on the issue of being pro-life and has a voting record to prove it. He understands the importance of civil liberties for all, including the unborn.
After taking all of the presidential candidates into consideration, it is obvious that Ron Paul is the only one that doesn't just talk the talk. For this reason and those stated above, I am publicly endorsing Ron Paul for President.
Wonder if Rick Santorum would like to debate "Jane Roe" on her endorsement. My guess would be....probably not.
A good round of questions by voters to pose to the other candidates professing to be pro-life would be to ask them what pro-life bills they ever authored, sponsored, co-sponsored or supported in their careers in Congress or as Governors. If they co-sponsored any such legislation, who actually was the author or sponsor of it? The other attacks that Ron Paul has sustained regarding not being able to get many of his bills passed probably could have been greatly helped if such supposedly Pro-life members of Congress would have actually helped in the cause. This would be a better line of questioning that voters should be asking the candidates and to look up the actual bills for themselves to see what pro-life bills the candidates ever even co-sponsored when they had every opportunity to do so. A list of just some of Ron Paul's bills to protect the unborn can be found in one of my previous articles on this subject. People may be surprised to discover that the members of Congress getting the most credit for being pro-life and suffer the least amount of scrutiny just might be the ones that actually did next to nothing constructive to move the cause forward. But, of course it sure helped them that abortion remained an issue when it came time for their re-election bids.
Perhaps an even less known fact is that Congressman Paul's very first book he wrote was titled "Abortion and Liberty". The foreword to that first short book was actually written by C. Everett Koop, the former pro-life Surgeon General appointed by President Reagan. This foreword is listed below and can be found here.
ForewordOne might wonder why another book on abortion. Is thereanything to say except the tricky alliteration of a new slogan? Hassomeone found a new message? Is there a person out there withcredentials no one else seems to have? The answer to that last question is: “Yes.” Ron Paul is notonly a physician, but he was trained in the discipline of obstetricsand gynecology and therefore is a the front lines in the battleagainst abortion. This physician was then elected to Congress fourtimes and looks back on abortion as a problem he saw inbiomedical ethics as a student, then as a resident and finally as apractitioner of obstetrics. The fresh insights that Ron Paul, the physician, brings tothe question of abortion stem from the experience he developed asa Member of Congress, as he contemplated the relationshipbetween natural rights and a free society. It is true that some of the old arguments about rights, viability, mother versus child, child abuse, health of the mother, and rape are considered in these pages. There is much more. Theunique contribution found in this book is the examination of a freesociety in reference to that society’s responsibilities. Perhapsanother way of stating it is that there is an examination of thechild’s rights versus the mother’s obligations. The concludingwarning is clear: a disregard for human life will not expand humanfreedom. The individual rights we all cherish are rooted in the valuewe assign to human life, especially innocent human life. Theauthor’s credentials are unique and so is his approach to thediverse social problem abortion has become in our day.C.Everett Koop, M.D., Sc.D.
