Dr. Ron Paul arrived in western North Dakota on Sunday afternoon to an audience as large as the turnout for the Keystone XL pipeline in Glendive last fall.
A clear constitutionalist, Dr. Paul, a candidate for the republican nomination for US President, started and ended his presentation by addressing what he calls “debt nation”. Dr. Paul told Mondakians at the Ramada Inn in Dickinson that “We don't need a federal reserve system” and he call for the repeal of the income tax and a return to a gold and silver backed system. He also told his supporters that the country needs to cut spending by one trillion dollars in one year and he says that will not hurt the economy because those taxes would not need to be collected.
Dr. Paul places much of the burden and fault in the current monetary system on the Federal Reserve. He addressed the Federal Reserve system extensively and noted he believes that the solution to a weak economy is not overspending or bailouts and instead that people need to stop believing they have a right to go to someone else for their failures. He stated “Real wealth comes from hard work and saving.” He called for an audit of the federal reserve system and says that a new monetary system will be necessary. He told the audience “Something is seriously flawed with this economic system. Let's find out who the federal reserve is really bailing out, who their friends are.”
With a no-holds barred approach, he implied the name of the Patriotic Act itself was a marketing ploy to diminish the protections of the fourth amendment of the constitution and called for a restoration of fourth amendment rights.
Although speaking in the heart of the Mondak (he spoke later in the evening in Williston) Dr. Paul did not address energy issues. Mondak News and The Examiner did ask him after the town hall about the regional energy resources. His response is in the audio to the left of this column.
Dr. Paul also took a stance on the land use policy, international banking, and war. Overall, Dr. Paul told the audience that the government needs to “Butt out. The government doesn't need to be in our lives. There is a revolution going on and it is an intellectual revolution.
