According to ABC News, William Hilton Paul, 19, the grandson of former GOP presidential candidate United States Rep. Ron Paul of Texas and the son of United States Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, was arrested on Saturday morning with the alleged charge of being intoxicated and more. The arrest occurred at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The young Paul arrived in Charlotte, North Carolina on U.S. Airways on a flight that departed from Lexington, Kentucky - the state where his father is a United States senator. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department believe he was possibly served alcohol on the flight.
As the 19-year-old with the famous political grandfather and father was arrested and booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail, he was charged with underage consumption of alcohol, being intoxicated and disruptive, and disorderly conduct. All three infractions are misdemeanors.
Moira Bagley, Sen. Rand Paul's Communications Director, released a statement for the family on Sunday evening which asks for privacy and respect in regard to the unfortunate incident.
Specifically, the statement from Bagley stated:
Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena; however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this.
The senator, who was recently appointed to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was scheduled to travel to Israel Sunday evening for meetings with Israeli Officials.
William Hilton Paul posted a $750 bond on Saturday and was released from jail. No other information was reported.
