Libertarian GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul received the highly sought after endorsement of South Carolina State Senator Tom Davis on Sunday.
Much to the chagrin of an establishment that seems to want nothing to do with the only true anti-establishment candidate in the race, the South Carolina Tea Party favorite sent shockwaves through the ranks as he threw his support into the ring with the surging Texas Congressman.
Prior to the endorsement, candidates and news agencies alike were praising the potentially lucrative public approval of a State Senator that CNN called a “rising star” while rival GOP candidate Rick Santorum told South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island Packet that the coveted endorsement would be “a big deal and would speak volumes to folks and make them take notice.”
The Ron Paul camp expressed their enthusiasm by saying, “we are very excited and grateful to have Sen. Davis’s endorsement, as it carries tremendous weight in South Carolina,”
Of the reasons for deciding on publicly supporting the strict Libertarian, Sen. Davis stated, “Paul gives the Republican Party the best chance at defeating President Barack Obama in November,” and noting what he called Paul's, “decades-long commitment to tea party principles such as cutting taxes and government spending.”
Just after the energizing endorsement, Ron Paul told the excited crowd that although he’s often credited for being a symbol of encouragement, endorsements like the one from Tom Davis and a seemingly endless ground-swell of growing support is what encourages him.
Along with the GOP heavyweight endorsement, another successful “Money Bomb” over the weekend assures voters Ron Paul and his long-standing ideals of sound monetary policy, free markets, and constitutional liberty are in the race to stay.
