It may come as no surprise to online folks that Rep. Ron Paul (TX) leads the way in the use of social media among politicians. In a survey of social media usage by Congressional members this week, Rep. Paul earned first place amongst all Congressional members.
A survey of web analytics performed by media and technology company OhMyGov averaged out growth in followers on Twitter and Facebook, retweets, and mentions on the platforms over the past week.
The top five House users are all Republicans: Paul is trailed by Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), then Reps. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Allen West (R-Fla.).
Rep. Paul’s followers are notorious for getting into any forums or polls that mention their candidate, as they tend to be extremely enthusiastic about their candidate.
The top five senators ranked a little closer together in their numbers and were bipartisan, including Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.) Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Richard Lugar (R-Ind.).
It is interesting to note that three of the most popular people listed above have all been rumored as potential Presidential candidates – Marco Rubio, Allen West, and Paul Ryan. Rep. Issa, of course, is making news for his attempts to hold the administration accountable on Operation Fast and Furious (i.e. Project Gunwalker).
