As the results came rolling in yesterday in Minnesota a bit of information came to my attention. Ron Paul has hit yet another ceiling! He received 27% of the vote! This is the largest percentage of the vote he has received in a primary to date.
He recently placed second in a national Reuters poll:
Support for Ron Paul, a U.S. congressman from Texas, grew by 5 percentage points to 21 percent. That moved him into second place and ahead of former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich, whose support slipped to 19 percent from 20 percent.
(It's amusing to me because others are reporting on the fall of other candidates as showing a "continuing lack of consensus in the GOP primary more than a month after the Iowa caucuses" where I see it as a rise in consensus for Ron Paul)
Ron Paul has been very vocal about appreciating the dedication his supporters have shown:
Paul is sitting in second place behind former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum in Minnesota. The Texas congressman says he will continue to compete and collect delegates to the Republican convention. He says that's the best way to promote his campaign's message.
His supporters realize that with Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich not having access to 567 of the delegates it is essentially a two man race:
The 40th REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION will have a total of 2,286 delegates, with 1,144 (a majority) necessary in order for a Presidential or Vice-Presidential candidate to be nominated.
I wonder if those 567 delegates that Gingrich and Santorum will not have access to will make a difference when trying to reach 1,144 delegates...
