Ron Howard to direct 'In the Heart of the Sea'

Vulture is reporting today that Ron Howard (“Cinderella Man”), who just recently was revealed to be adapting “The Graveyard Book” to the big screen, is now set to adapt another novel.

He is now set to adapt Nathaniel Philbri’s “In the Heart of the Sea,” which could end up being his next project.

The 19th century drama follows the surviving crew who drifted for 90 days in the South Pacific after their whale ship was rammed and sunk by a sperm whale (the inspiration for “Moby Dick”).

Ron Howard is close to closing a deal on directing, and one of the contributing factors is that the studio is securing Chris Hemsworth (“The Avengers”) as the lead.

Howard just finished production on a Formula One biopic called “Rush” that was led by Hemsworth, and apparently the two are eager to work together again (which inspires confidence in Hemsworth’s performance in that).
