Neil Gaiman (“Coraline”) has been having a lot of trouble with Disney trying to team up with “Coraline” director Henry Selick in bringing “The Graveyard Book” to life on the big screen in the form of a stop-motion adaptation.
After a great deal of drama that plan fell apart, but THR reported yesterday that Disney has decided to pick the project back up, but as a live-action adaptation.
The studio is now in talks with Oscar winning director Ron Howard (“The DaVinci Code”) to direct.
The children’s novel follows the story of a young boy named Nobody Owens who is raised in a graveyard by ghosts after his family is murdered, and he finds himself in danger against as a teen when his parents’ killer, a being named “The Man Jack,” returns for him.
This seems like a really dark story, but it has a great track record (the first children’s book to win both the Carnegie and Newbery medals), and if anyone can bring it to life it’s Ron Howard.
