Ron Barceló Gran Añejo rum from Dominican Republic

With a palette more delicate than the luxury Imperial rum, Ron Barceló Gran Añejo delivers notable, well-balanced flavor which plays well on the rocks or in a fine cocktail.

This medium bodied aged rum is a brilliant amber color, presenting fine legs of viscosity on the tasting glass. Initial aromas of sherry and pale butterscotch meld with tones of vanilla. The flavor suggests a careful blend of rums naturally aged for six or more years in American oak proffering essence of dried fruits, mild earthy peat, leather and bourbon. The finish is medium dry with echoes of bourbon barrel to the end.

At the price point of $15, Ron Barceló Gran Añejo rum is an exceptional value, delivering well-balanced, well-aged flavor for it class. At the RumXP international Rum Competition at Miami Rum Renaissance Festival, Ron Barceló Gran Añejo won a gold award.

The company traces its roots back to 1929 when Julián and Andrés Barceló of Majorca arrived in the Dominican Republic and opened their distillery in Santa Domingo, only to be adversely affected by the devastating hurricane of 1930.

Julian kept the Barceló brand going until his death in 1982. The company was re-organized with additional investment from Spain in 2000 and has effectively built their market share in numerous countries since that time.

The Barceló brand includes a wide range of rum, including Blanco white, Gran Añejo Blanco white premium, 151 overproof, Dorado basic gold, Añejo gold and Imperial luxury rum.
