Shakespeare-in-the-park, brought to the Montreal area by the Repercussion Theatre is performing one of the most famous love themed plays of all time, Romeo & Juliet. The cast of nine actors, of varying degrees of experience all play multiple roles and all shine to bring the audience Artistic Director Paul Hopkins’ interpretation of the tragic love story.
Nathan Barrett stars as Romeo, and from the moment he stumbles on stage, mourning the loss of his love Rosaline and playing the trumpet, the audience believes him as a love-sick teenager. It is not long before he meets and falls for Juliet, the daughter of his family’s enemy, played by Sarah Peterson.
The ill fated lovers go through a fast courtship, marriage, duels which lead to murder, then banishment and eventually suicide. Add in a cast of characters that mean well, and some that don’t, all well acted and you have a great night of theatre under the stars.
Romeo & Juliet is playing in parks in the Montreal area from July 29th to August 22nd. Donations are welcome. For a complete schedule and more information about the Repercussion Theatre, please visit their website at www.repercussiontheatre.com.
