With Singles Awareness Day (or Valentines Day if you aren't being bitter) just around the corner, I'm going to recommend three romantic young adult novels, each from a different genre, that can help put you in the 'holiday' spirit.
1) The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith (Contemporary Romance). Let's start by being real. This story has no faeries, vampires, or succubi. Just real people, with real people problems. It's a bit better than reality though, because the plot involves a chance meeting with a hot British guy. If that sounds good to you, you might want to track this down at your local library or bookstore.
2) Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion (Science Fiction). Still no vampires, but this novel does have the next best thing... zombies. A romance with zombies might not seem like it would work, but this book is a huge hit. And it's being made into a movie that's coming to a theater near you this February.
3) Fingersmith by Sarah Waters (Historical and/or GLBT fiction). This novel takes place in Victorian London and has all of the hallmarks of a classic Dickens tale: orphans, thieves, and star-crossed upstairs/downstairs hijinks. Heads up; it also has lesbians. So if that's going to be a problem, you'll want to skip this one.
