St. Valentine’s day is right around the corner and love is in the air. If you typically spend this holiday with wine and roses at a local restaurant, you may be missing out on some of the spirit of the season. A short 35-minute drive to the heart of Windham County will deliver you to a place with a passion for passion.
In 2004, the Willimanitic section of Windham took advantage of the rhythmic attributes of its name and began the Romantic Willimantic Chocolate Festival. This year’s festival is taking place on Saturday February 11. The all day celebration of love and chocolate has something for everyone and is a perfect time to share with that special someone.
The merriment commences at 11 a.m. with the Downtown Chocolate Chip Stroll. More than a couple of baker’s dozen businesses will be offering a variety of chocolate treats. There will also be activities for children and restaurants offering special menus. The event goes until 3 p.m.
That night is the wildly popular Chocolate Lovers’ Soiree and Cabaret, starting at 7 p.m. The evening begins with love songs performed by the Windham Performing Arts alumni and friends. After the show a gourmet chocolate reception will be held. Sample decadent desserts and beverage, all created with the star of the show, chocolate.
Bring your family or plan a couple’s day in Willimantic and indulge yourself. You deserve it. Happy Valentine’s Day!
